WOW Map Addons
Although there are quite a few WOW Map AddOns available, many of them are out of date and not very useful. There is nothing more frustrating than taking the time to download an AddOn, install it, and load the game only to find out that it is very buggy or worse yet, does not work at all.
On this page I have provided an up-to-date list of WOW Map Addons you can use to improve your game experience. All are functional when I tested them, and fully compatible with Wrath of the Lich King.
General WOW Map Addons
MiniCoords
If you are just looking for a simple AddOn that will give you coordinates on your minimap and world map, then this addon is all you need.
Too often, map AddOns come with lots of other junk that either don't work well or that you don't really want to use anyway. This simple addons gives you the basic coordinate functions without bogging down your game.
Cartographer
This is an interesting AddOn with a lot of great features for people who want a little more than a simple coordinate mod. Cartographer gives you maps of every zone and shows unexplored zones. It is fully customizable, and you can adjust adjust things such as the opacity of the map and the size of the map window.
Features of Cartogropher include:
- Coordinates for both the minimap and world map
- Maps of all zones and unexplored areas
- Battleground maps
- The ability to create notes on your map
- Zone Information, such as level of zone, instances, etc. which are shown when you hover over a zone
- Scale and transparency of map can be adjusted to user preferences
- Instance maps are included
Instance Map AddOns
One annoying thing about instances is that you cannot view a full map of the instance and have to rely on the minimap to find your way. Atlas is an AddOn that solves this problem by providing a full map of all instances you are in, along with a host of other useful information such as boss locations, etc.
It is the favored map addon for instances, and while cartographer does a good job, Atlas offers additional features making it the most robust instance map you can have.
Installation of WOW Map AddOns
- Unpack the zip file
- Copy the files to the following folder on your computer: Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns
- Start up World of Warcraft. On the character screen, find the red AddOns button on the bottom left, click it, and check the addons you want to enable. You will also have to check the box on top that says "load out of date AddOns."
That's it. Your AddOns should work when you now log in your character to play.
