Warlock Talent Guide

Warlocks have 3 talent trees to choose from - Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction. As with other classes, it's a good idea for warlocks to specialize in a single talent tree. Make sure you have some plan on how you will spend your talent points. The last thing you want is to rely on trial and error only to find you have to redo your talents later, which as we all know can get quite costly.

This Warlock Talent Guide will help you determine what kind of warlock you should build, based on your goals and playing style.

Affliction Warlocks

The affliction tree is all about maximizing your DOT (damage over time) attacks such as Curse of Agony and Corruption. Specializing in this tree will make your DOT attacks highly effective, and stacking a few of these attacks on a mob while your pet is keeping them busy is usually all it takes to take an enemy down fairly quickly. You will notice that the DOT attacks will cause damage slowly at first, then accelerate greatly as the timer on the DOT winds down.

Important Affliction Talents:

Demonology Warlock

This is one of the favorite trees for warlocks to specialize in, and it is especially suited for people who solo because of the benefits it adds in terms of improved survivability, all without sacrificing too much DPS.  A demonology specialization means your pet will do most of the work while you stack some DOTs on the mobs and watch them go down. Talents that maximize pet stamina and pet attacks are the most important.

Important Demonology talents:

You should max out most of these talents as soon as you can. For a secondary tree, I would recommend affliction, however, if you want to get your Felguard as early as possible, I would put almost all points into the demonology tree until you have your Felguard.

Destruction Warlock

As the name implies, this tree maximizes the damage you will do from direct damage spells such as shadow bolt and immolate. I generally would not recommend this build while you level, or if you are soloing because of the high threat it generates. However, some player like to focus on DPS and quickly taking down mobs is their main focus. For such players, and for players who group often and have other characters who can handle the aggro, a destruction build would be a reasonable choice.
